Top Things to do This Bank Holiday Weekend in St Davids

There are a whole host of bank holiday weekends coming up because a thousand or so years ago someone made a blood oath with a dragon and now they have to donate the bones of a great number of townspeople in order to maintain peace with the dragon or else all hell will break loose. It's something like that. And St Davids is a wonderful place for families to visit with plenty of activities to keep everyone entertained. Obviously there's the Best Ever 100% Verifiably Accurate Walking Tour of St Davids. That's a must do. But what else is there to do in St Davids? Well we've taken a deep dive into the surrounding area to help you out. Here are our top recommendations for things to do in St Davids with your family over the bank holiday weekend:

1. Visit St Davids Cathedral: Did you know St Davids is home to a stunning 12th century cathedral dedicated to St David called St David's cathedral? It's quite famous and is one of the most popular attractions in the whole of Pembrokeshire. Families can take a guided tour to learn about the history of the cathedral and the surrounding area. You can even see a chest with the remains of Dewi Sant himself inside if you're into that sort of thing. 2. Walk the Coastal Path: The Pembrokeshire Coastal Path offers breathtaking views of the coastline and is perfect for a family walk. The route is well-maintained, the steps are all lovingly rustic and uneven and there are plenty of spots to stop for a picnic. Remember the rule is you have to say hello to everyone you pass and if you don't you will be followed home by hobgoblins. 3. Take a Boat Trip round the islands: There are plenty of boat trips available from St Davids, which provide an opportunity to spot dolphins, seals, and other marine life around local islands such as Ramsey, Skomer, Skokholm and Grassholm. Children will love being out on the water and getting up close to nature. 4. Explore the Beaches: North Pembrokeshire has some of the most beautiful beaches in the UK. Whitesands Bay is a popular choice for families with its soft sand and clear waters. Other nearby beaches include Caerfai Bay, Newgale Beach, and Abereiddy Beach. 5. Visit the Blue Lagoon: Follow the coast round from St Davids and you’ll soon arrive at the Blue Lagoon, Abereiddy, a former slate quarry that has been flooded with seawater. It's now a popular spot for swimming, kayaking, and jumping off the cliffs into the water (which it is recommended to do with qualified guides!) There's some nice ruins of the old cottages to see and there's a great little walk between Abereiddy and Porthgain you should probably squeeze in as well. 6. Discover History at St Davids Bishops Palace: This ruined palace was once home to the bishops of St Davids and is now a fascinating historical site since it got decommissioned by Henry Viii. Families can explore the cavernous honeycomb ruins and learn about the history of the palace and the surrounding area. Undoubtedly haunted. 7. Try Surfing: Pembrokeshire has some of the best surfing beaches in the UK. Surf schools in the area offer lessons for all ages and abilities. 8. Enjoy Local Food: There are plenty of restaurants, cafes, and pubs in St Davids where you can sample delicious local food. Vegan sausage rolls at Food & Wine (St David would be proud) to fish & chips at Peter's Plaice and pizza at Grain. As for pubs, well you've got the Bishops, The Farmers Arms and the Cross Hotel all within a stones throw of the city centre (bearing in mind St Davids is the smallest city in Great Britain!) Make sure to try some fresh seafood, including crab, lobster, and fish & chips (cod a sglod, as they say). 9. Go Wildlife Spotting: Pembrokeshire is home to a variety of wildlife, including puffins, seals, dolphins and of course pigeons. You'll have to take a boat trip out to Skomer to see puffins but you can often find a host of wild sea birds hanging around Whitesands. You might catch gannets divebombing at night and you have a good chance of seeing seals, porpoises and dolphins at any given time. You'll even get the odd shark and orca stopping by. 10.Explore Local Arts and Crafts: St Davids is home to many talented artists and crafters. Families can visit local galleries and studios to see their work and even take one of the many workshops at Oriel y Parc.

There you have it, our top recommendations for things to do in St Davids with your family. Whether you're interested in history, wildlife, or just soaking up the natural beauty of the area, there's something for everyone in this stunning part of Wales.
